Version 2.5


Ok, so Stoichion made his unexpected comeback yesterday, and the new version is now ready. From my initial plans for version 2.5 only the wererat CG has not been crossed off the list, as Owrless is still MIA. Stoichion is now handling the Dark Elf queen graphics for Version 3.0, and if by the time he's done Owrless still shows no signs of life, I'll let him handle the wererat CG.


Version 2.5 Improvements

  • 3 new maps: Dragontooth and the surrounding forests. Many of the tutorial messages have been moved from ToB to these areas. (PS: A new questline can be picked up at Dragontooth, but the player will not be able to complete it until Version 3 is released).
  • Various improvements in enemy placements in floor 2, especially in the smaller caves area, on the path to Imperia Academia.
  • Floor 2 mapping improvements, specifically pathfinding. The road to Urbus and back to ToB is now marked properly.
  • Docks now connected to the main game, aka, you can revisit them.
  • A few new NPCs in all big towns/villages that should help starting players get a small gold boost.
  • Urbus'es volcano path blocked until I get to properly work on it in future patches. It was nowhere near recommended player levels anyway.
  • Efforts for more environmental storytelling. 
  • Palace Plaza NPCs now show nameboxes properly, and many of their dialogues have been rewritten.
  • "Cuddling of Evil"perk removed . Not displaying interaction that were purely character decisions without the perk felt silly, it was one of the perks that everyone "had" to get, so it lost its meaning. A new, completely unrelated, perk has been added to replace it.
  • Both of Azar's h-scenes now have corresponding CGs, for the minotaur cave in Floor 2. Because of the initial huge resolution, I had to make a choice between lowering the image quality or only showing the focus of each picture, and I went with the latter. Azar's butt will look the peachiest it's ever been.
  • More of the voice lines used. The game now has Levelup lines for Azar/Kaliska/Hana, and a lot more damage received lines. It also separates between low damage (aka just higher than 10% of max hp) and heavy damage (aka 45% + of max hp) to deliver some of the more grim voice lines for the second. I also did some audio editing and improved the quality of a lot of the lines.
  • Intro splash screen (the wendigo one) fixed (used to have a rectangle shape, which, once noticed, could never be unseen).
  • New dialogue box, choice boxes and cursor graphics by Yummy. Now, fitting the the new arrow sprites from the previous patch, everything is a lot more bones&mist themed.
  • Managed to trim about 100 MB off the game's size.

I will be adding both of Azar's new CGs below because people are likely to have completed N'Gombe's dungeon by now. Both of these are actually the in-game resolutions (yeah, I know they look amazing even so). To see them at their full glorious HDness you'll have to get the DLC once the game comes out:

Hell yeah, love to see optimisations like this made, any clue as to what was removed/changed to add up to such a massive trimming?

Just character busts that were not used and changed some mp3s to oggs.
